Community Awareness

The Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon is once again coming to a street near you! As with any street race, traffic will be restricted in certain areas.

All residences/businesses/churches/schools and other similar entities located on or adjacent to the race course will be significantly impacted on Saturday morning October 18, 2008.  Everyone is urged to plan ahead and to be aware of road closure schedules and alternate access routes.

Does the race run through your neighborhood? Why not get a group together to watch the marathon or volunteer?

Street Closures:

 At 6:00 AM on October 18, 2008 the Kansas City police will begin closing all streets along the entire race course.  The race begins at 7:00 AM and streets will re-open on a rolling basis as the last runners pass by and all course support materials are removed.  Most road closures and detours will be in effect between the hours of 7:00 AM and 1:00 AM.

Limited Street Crossings:

During  peak time periods, vehicles will not be allowed to cross the course.  If it is necessary to cross the course during the race, there will be limited opportunities to do so at police patrolled intersections.  Expect crossing at these points to take a considerable amount of time as police will wait for a clear opening in the race before allowing any cars to cross the course.
