Week Thirteen - Goals
Mileage (miles per workout): 5 - 8 - 5 - 18
“Winners compare their achievements to their goals while others compare their achievement to others.”
Until now, I would have disregarded that statement. I had always wanted to be better, smarter and stronger than everyone and anyone. Now that I’m working towards a goal physically I have to do on my own, the mental achievement focused on my goals. I set out to do this for myself. Only those obstacles I let get in my way would prevent me from getting to where I currently stand.
There is only one more distance goal before I can call this adventure complete. That would be the marathon. Now I wait. All that stands between me and this goal is time.
I came back this week and completed all the short term goals associated with my training. I also completed all the training runs. But I’m not going to say I was 100% enthusiastic about doing it either.
I pulled the courage from the forgotten reserve everyone keeps deep down inside of them. It took courage for me to step outside and work up to the 18 miles I recently completed. I wrestled with running every day. But in the end, I changed into my running clothes, forgot about all the things I needed to do besides run and put one foot in front of the other. By the end of the week I was feeling good about pushing myself. I definitely made my actions speak louder than the demons in my head.
Things I learned this week:
First: Weather does make a difference.
Last: Drinking a fluid replacement drink during the run is more beneficial than just drinking it before and after the run with water in between. My legs didn’t protest until well into the 15th mile.
